After the Holidays Howdy
Howdy All. Coming back to the blog. For sure. Yes. Going to. Not just sayin' it this time. Making an effort (insert cheesy smile).
This Christmas was an amazingly chill holiday- just Hubby D and me, celebrating it up on his birthday! Batman had a pretty awesome message to bring him.......

Hope you had a fab Christmas........ for us, it's always rockin' with Hubs birthday cake! This year I made German chocolate cake completely from scratch, frosting and all. I feel it's one of the best I've ever made (thank goodness for the amount of time it took)! I'll share the recipe later this week.

Keepin' it Cool
Hi Peeps!
I've missed posting. I've missed your blogs. I've missed keeping in touch through comments. The holidays are always busy, yet I hope to hop online to blog a bit (I know, same old shpeal) - but I'm gonna really try.
Looking forward to a little getaway soon and I'll have some fun things to share along with new products for the Etsy shop- stay tuned.
In the meantime, just finishing up some S&S orders before a quick vacay. Working with a sweet, sweet Maui Bride Brigit. Loving her style and colors, makes my job much easier when the client has a clear vision of what they want.
Hope everyone is well!

Chuggin' Along
photo via love creative blog
D had to remind me nicely that "Movember" is for dudes to grow out their staches, not for women to grow their leg hair. Oooooops. Life's busy.... what can I say?
Dang, the holidays are creepin' big time! Going out anywhere now in public is a huge "in your face" reminder of it. Life continues to be so busy- I just realized that maybe I should get on the ball and prepare a bit more. I haven't even ordered our Christmas cards yet (yes, the girl who coordinates handmade envelope liners and strategically chooses just the right envelopes and return address stamp ink). What is my problem this year? This time of year tends to put me in a more laid back mood, even though there are always just as many things to get done, if not more.
Time to get that extra drive kickin.

Travel-Wear Inspiration
What vacations have you taken this year?
I'm SO ready for a vacation. Besides taking a super quick few days out to Colorado this past Summer, D and I haven't taken a vacation this year. I'm a huge believer in taking time away- to relax, rejuvenate, to find a balance, to regain faith, to splurge on yourself, to be grateful, and of course to drink coffee everyday after sleeping in and possibly have a few days with no set agenda.
Sadly we don't have a long vacation planned, yet we are looking forward to a long weekend in San Fran next month. I can't wait to roam around the city, eat delicious carbs, bundle up in a pea coat and boots and sip hot drinks all day. We've also got a 49ers game to attend which will be my very first live NFL game EVER! Pretty.darn.excited.
I'm most definitely revving up for the City by the Bay and if money was no object, I'd have all these travel goodies and wardrobe items ( a girl can wish):

Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween peeps! It was a fun run this weekend dressing up in our costumes, so tonight will be a chill evening for me and the Mr.
Catwoman was a success! Thank you to my friend Debra for doing my awesome makeup (who was so patient to do both a trial and final application), to my Hubs and his friend for making my head cowl piece and belt, and to D for encouraging me to get into a comic character and go with it (totally admit it was a freakin rad time)!
We had our whole comic theme set: I was Catwoman, D was Bane, friends were Batman and Peter Parker/Spiderman. Fun times.

What the Heck is Up?
I have weird motivation levels this week. My workout routine has been amped leading up to a very tight fitting vinyl costume that will get worn this weekend, which has dipped into evening time.
I miss my sister and knowing that we're not going to travel to Colorado to visit this holiday season makes it worse.
Listing to Jimmy Eat World tunes has been such a nice 'throwback feeling' this past week.
Haven't given up on the Frappucinos yet......... don't know if I can cut all ties.
I have a list a mile long of things I would like to get done by Friday, not quite sure if they all will, but it's testing my will power.
I have so many clothes that are 'hand wash only', and I keep buying more. Ugh! I do not own one of those fabulous washers with a million wash settings therefore, I may be one of the only people left in the Continental U.S. who still hand washes garments with my own hands. And I hate it.
I dusted off my old skateboard the other day and told my husband it's time to take it out for a spin. Years ago I would have considered it an insult to let dust set on top of it, yet it's just another excuse I use for turning 30. Can't let all the fun disappear though, time to take that baby out!
I have to go to Costco this evening to pick up a few things, and.....well.........who EVER looks forward to that?!
I'm counting down the days until this weekend, actually just Friday when I will stuff my face with pizza and absolutely not feel one ounce of guilt. Then I'll just pray that my tight costume fits well on Saturday. Yep. That's life lately.

Oh Grey!
It's time to have our bedroom furniture re-painted and refinished. It's well overdue. We had our headboard and nightstands custom made a few years ago according to drawings and photos I provided to a carpenter we found through Craigslist. Price was awesome, design was awesome, finish coat over the paint = not awesome. It's always bothered us that we specifically requested a MATTE finish and each piece was completed with a clear coat of who knows what over them. Bummers. We just dealt with it because like any anxious/impatient couple, we wanted to get some dang furniture in the bedroom. I can't stand how dust accumulates in the little crevasses about 2.5 seconds after it's dusted, and how everything sticks to the tops of our nightstands. Lamer than lame.
We're on the hunt for the perfect shade of grey to repaint our furniture. So far, neither D nor I have settled on the right shade of grey. He would like to see a mid to darker shade, while I would be happy with a mid tone hue. I must admit that it's true when Designer's say it's most difficult to make design decisions for themselves in their personal lives vs. client projects. If this was for a client, I would have chosen the color within a few days. Our project....... over 2 + months...... still looking at swatches and draw down sheets of grey. Ugh.

At times I'm ready to throw in the towel and just purchase an upholstered headboard, but I do love our current furniture too much give up on it now. And the search continues..............

DIY Doormat - Halloween Style
I decided over the weekend that a DIY doormat was a must have in order to spruce up our entry for Halloween. D was also on board, although I know he had to tap into his 'good sport' side while I pulled him around town running errands to get materials. I'm pretty sure the only thing sparking his excitement was that I offered to use a Batman symbol on the mat - just enough fun and nerd for our casa.
This project was SUPER easy, inexpensive, and rather quick time wise.
Before you head out for materials, choose your design and print it out using your home computer or save the photo on a flash drive and bring it to your local printers to enlarge. In our case, I printed out the Batman symbol on 8.5" x 11" paper, then took it to Kinkos to enlarge is 225% (percentage will depend on your mat size) for our mat, I knew I wanted it to be just a little more than double the size of my original print.
We picked up a low cost utility mat at Target, I think it was around $7.99. We chose one with a bit of black/grey color blend, although they did have all black available as well. Cost was key here, didn't want to spend much.

Materials:
Doormat $7.99 @ Target
Your custom design , enlarge @ Kinkos $2.25
Exacto knife, already had one
Spray paint, already had it in garage

Cut out your custom design using an Exacto knife, carefully navigating around curves with a continuous cut to ensure an even line. For ours, I just wanted the bat symbol and not the border, so it was quite simple and quick.
Then place the design "stencil" on top of the mat, centered, and spray paint over it with an even coat throughout the design. Sorry no photos of this process, as it was a bit windy and it took both sets of husband/wife hands to hold areas down and spray evenly.
Whaaaa Laaaa. Done. And we're digging it everyday.
Yes I'm wearing flip flops, it's still in the 90s here in SD. A toasty Fall!

Kinda bringing it back several years, awesome to rock tunes I saw live with D back in the day (in this case it was in a total dive 'not bar' locale) here in SD- fun times.

Falling for Fall
We did it- we finally got some of the Fall decor up! Yesterday consisted of glittering a faux skeleton, spray painting a DIY doormat and potting some colorful flowers- it was awesome. You know you have the best husband in the world when he allows you to drag him to the craft store to get glitter, drag him to the nursery to get flowers (never knowing which ones I want to choose, but he remains patient), and somehow talking him into holding Mr. Skeleton while I spray adhesive the heck out of it and give it repetitive glitter baths. Oh yes, I scored a gem. Smiles.
I'll share our super easy DIY doormat this week with the list of materials and cost (ummm, why isn't everyone designing their own mats)?

What's New?
Well hello there.
What's new?
Anyone from San Diego knows the weather has been insanely hot, like high 90s-100 hot. Eeeewww. It's beginning to cool down now and I couldn't be more stoked. I actually wore boots this past weekend when it cooled down to something like 76 degrees. Keep on going down the thermometer, I can't wait for sweaters!

I've been enjoying some free time with Hubby D, it's been amazing. No more crazy stressful work schedule as of late.
Picked up some Fall wardrobe must haves at Nordie Rack, loving me some grey ankle boots and skinny pants!
Decided that I'm going to attempt to dress as Catwoman for Halloween. If it's a success, you'll see photos. If it's a failure, I won't speak of it further. Anyone know of some awesome black pleather leggings- stores of where to purchase or brands?
I've been trying to stick to a better workout routine lately, feels good.
Eating habits- ehhhhhh, trying. Those Starbucks Fraps are so hard to give up.
I'm determined to glitter our little naked skeleton we picked up at the craft store and possibly get some Fall colored flowers to decorate our front door/entry. If it doesn't get done by this weekend, then I'm not going to put in the effort for 2 weeks of visual enjoyment.
We made chocolate chip pancakes for dinner the other night, I can't begin to explain how delicious they were!

Life and Living it!
Well....... I meant to return early this week, but we all know how that goes. Maybe not for "all" of us-not all you excellent bloggers out there who can actually manage posts everyday. Two thumbs up to you savages, it takes persistence and dedication. I would love to get back into the posting groove. It's a tough balance. I've been finding a better balance between work and actually having a life which has been nice. I saw this little quote the other day while perusing Pinterest (yes, I actually have time to Pin lately too- yay):
If that doesn't put things in perspective, I'm not sure what else would. Building a life is everything! I've taken it to heart and amped up the effort in setting aside time to do what's important to me.
Running: It needs to transition into a daily routine, the motivation is there and hopefully I can push myself to make it a daily habit.
Spending time with D: Picnics @ the coast- the best! I look bald in this photo, but look at that smile.
Baking: D chooses the recipe and I get my behind in the kitchen to give it my best shot! This past weekend I nailed Martha's Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe- heck yes!
Looking forward to catching up with all of you!

Lately.......
photo via BELLAmumma
I was browsing through a few blogs (yes I found the time to, or rather I was up at 4:40 AM finishing Etsy orders and finished earlier than expected) and I came across a lovely post over on BELLAMumma about being positive, feeling fabulous in the morning, and carrying that feeling with you throughout the day. It's a short, lovely read and encourages with small reminders we can all strive to practice daily...... read here
Today I have a much needed girl's evening with my college bud Lindsay. It's not often we get the chance to connect, certainly not as often as in the past, but I always know it's going to be a time filled with tons of laughs, good food, and positive energy. We both studied interior design together and our visits tend to help us feed off of each others creativity- it's the best. Can't wait!
Etsy has been steadily busy, actually quite busy this past month transitioning into the Fall season. I thank God everyday for how blessed I am to have the opportunity to design and create pretty things for clients and their special events. My husband was talking with my Mom the other day explaining to her that sometimes he'll pass by the office and see me working on an order with a little smile on my face. We all know that when you're in the 'groove', you don't necessarily analyze your actions, therefore I had no idea that I "make happy faces". Listening to him say that gave me a feeling of satisfaction, it reminded me that working and doing what I love with my Etsy shop is an ultimate success.
I've been having some work struggles (with my professional day job) which I am just beginning to feel a calmness over, thanks to the support of my Husband and family. It's still quite fresh on the brain, however I know that I will soon feel the openness to share here on the blog- maybe someone out there is going through the same situation?
I've been embracing the simple things in life. I've been reminding myself a lot lately that time is not guaranteed to anyone. I've been breathing fresh air, enjoying bike rides with D, went on a spur-of-the-moment beach picnic date night with him, we have a concert to attend next week, then a little LA trip to enjoy with D the following weekend. It's important to spend time with the people you love, not to put it off and assume you'll have time in the near future. If your husband wants to grab an iced coffee and go to the comic shop- go with him, spend the time with him. If a friend calls to invite you for dinner or to meet up for coffee- go, you could probably both use some laughs and time to catch up. If your Mom is willing to come over and help you with a project or go out for lunch- go, spend that much needed time (and maybe you'll even stop to watch the sunset and take silly photos outside on the balcony- oh, or maybe that's just me and my Mom).
Hope all is well.

Mocha Coconut Fudge
If it has the word coconut in it, count me in. I understand that coconut is definitely an acquired flavor- people either love it or hate it. I love it. My husband loves it. That equals "winning" in the kitchen.
I must say that to date, since I've begun this Pinterest recipe finding/making/baking shenanigans, this fudge recipe is my absolute favorite! I cannot believe how good these little bars taste. Just a little secret from my kitchen to yours- have a cold beverage on the side and cut them on the smaller side because these babies are super rich and filling.
Add semisweet chocolate to a double boiler, and melt completely. Once melted, add in half of the sweetened condensed milk, the vanilla, the coffee powder and 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil. Stir with a spatula until combined and fairly smooth, then spread evenly in the bottom of the pan. Mixture will be thick. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
S&S tips- Boiler?! (wth). Not for me. I popped the choc. chips in a bowl and put it in the microwave for 1.5 minutes. Patience is not my strong suit when I'm in the kitchen.
Add white chocolate to a double boiler and melt completely. Add in remaining condensed milk, coconut oil and coconut extract, stirring until combined. Remove fudge from freezer and add white chocolate on top, spreading evenly to coat. Top with toasted coconut, then chill in the refrigerator for 60-90 minutes.
S&S tips- you guessed it, no on the boiler, yes to the microwave again. Be careful though, white chocolate can easily burn, keep an eye on it.
When ready to cut, fill a large cup with hot water. Dip a sharp knife into the water, then blot on a towel. Use knife to cut fudge into your desired size of squares.
Note: the melting can also be done in the microwave. I suggest melting the chocolate first on medium power in 30 second increments, stirring after each time. Once melted, add in remaining ingredients and stir until smooth. You can also use this Lindt Coconut White Chocolate for the coconut layer.
S&S compromises: My can of condensed milk was 14 oz., not 15 oz. Oh well. I didn't use espresso powder, rather I used the instant coffee. I also didn't use official white baking chocolate, I just used white chocolate chips. To toast the coconut flakes, I just tossed them into a small pan and let it sit on low heat while stirring the flakes occasionally until most turned golden.

(yep, even I was surprised at the amazing photos our good 'ol Nikon popped out).
Alrighty- the original recipe I found on Pinterest and followed, came from How Sweet it is blog. Jessica has many, many more amazing recipes worth browsing through (bookmark her blog for a guaranteed re-visit when you have browsing time). Especially with the Fall season here, she just linked tons of "Football Season Recipes"- uuuummmm, YES! By the way, she takes amazing photos as well.
Here we are, copied straight from HSII, with my added tips and tricks:
Mocha Coconut Fudge
[adapted from mother lovett's 3-minute fudge]
makes one 8×8 pan
12 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
12 ounces white baking chocolate, chopped
1 can (15oz) sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 tablespoons espresso powder (or instant coffee)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons coconut extract
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1/2 cup flaked coconut, toasted
Spray an 8×8 pan with non-stick spray.

Calm.
Have an amazing holiday weekend. We've got a few this in store these next few days: relax, Coffee Bean Ice Blendeds, bike riding, pizza, maybe some Pinterest browsing, crafts, a tad bit of Etsy work (or maybe quite a bit), and spending time with D. I tell ya, after this week, it's much needed.

Grateful.
Thank you to my sweet friends for the text messages and notes with thoughts and prayers, they really do mean so much. I promise to divulge more details within the coming week. As I continue to work through a huge decision of the professional path my life will turn to, I'm trying to remain positive and confident.
Unending thank yous to my husband who has been more than amazing over the past years, without his support daily, I'm not sure I could accomplish half the things I do. I love you D!

Action
I've had a feeling weighing over me this past week, something I know that needs to be done and will be done today. Lots of emotions are stirring as I head out for the workday, but I'm feeling confident and brave. I could use some extra prayers today............ and will be saying quite a few myself.

DIY Baby Girl Goodies
I'm so thrilled for the lovely Hollie and her hubby Aaron of their sweet baby girl Hadley! To refresh your memory, I posted back on Hollie's maternity session here where she looked as beautiful as always. They decided to be surprised of the gender until the baby was born (kudos to their patience), and to their surprise and elation, it was a girl!!!
Hadley is such a doll and Hollie sees to it that she is always rocking a bracelet, hair bow, or something sparkly and fabulous. I usually like to get baby gifts out before the baby is born, although I wanted to tailor the gifts more toward the gender and I had a blast making Miss H some girlie-girl goodies.
I'm hoping I don't ruin the surprise, her package was already delivered- Hopefully she doesn't read this post if she hasn't opened it yet! Mama Hollie's fave color is aqua, so you'll see pleanty of it!

Every girl needs tulle, glitter, and aqua-colored fashions in her closet!
My Mom handmade some booties and a hat in the prettiest of colors for little H.
Packaging is just as important.....
Inside the box...... glitter Toms (obviously these were not handmade, but absolutely adorable)!
Handmade burp cloths and blankies
Dressed up Onesies- adding tulle, bows, and sewing detail turns a
simple outfit into a fabulous outfit.
I hope Mama H and Baby H enjoy!
